A/N: This is a prequel to 'Business as Usual'... yes I'm sticking with this storyline :P
Richard Castle considered himself to be a fairly supportive father. Anything his baby girl wanted to do, as long as it didn't put her life in danger and, if it was wildly inappropriate, he didn't have to hear the details, it was fine by him.
"How could she do this to me?"
"You act like she ran away and joined the circus," Kate said as she set her breakfast dishes in the sink.
"I would have been happy if she'd joined the circus. Carnies are good people." He pulled out a pen and paper, jotting down an idea that had just popped into his mind.
Looking over his shoulder, Kate shook her head. "That was an episode of the X-Files."
"Damn." He crossed it out. "I'm just saying, she's 20-years-old. Isn't it a little late to rebel?"
"Oh for -" Kate sat down next to him so that he was forced to look her in the eyes. "She changed majors, Rick, there are a lot of other things she could have done that would have been much worse."
He looked scandalized at the very thought. "She's becoming a journalism major! What could possibly be worse?"
"She could have told you she was getting married."
For a moment she thought she was going to have to resuscitate him.
