"Hey, Scully, we should probably get married at some point."
It hadn't been the most romantic of proposals, and Scully hadn't taken it seriously for quite some time.
So she'd simply answered, "Sure, fine, whatever."
But he kept asking, usually in a joking manner. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. "Mulder, stop asking me if you're not going to be serious about it."
He didn't say anything. Scully sighed, not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed. She had gone back to the book she'd been reading before Mulder had interrupted, when Mulder sat down next to her and threw something onto her lap.
Looking down she saw a small jewelry box...
"Mulder?"
"Marry me, Scully?"
"Okay."
Now, they stood in front of the Justice of the Peace, on their lunch breaks, saying vows that merely reinforced the unspoken ones they'd lived by for years.
Not the most romantic, yet somehow... it worked for them.
