Author's Note: This was written for Aimee, who wanted a drabble having to do with eyes.
He asked her once if she knew who Emily's father was. It was the first time she could ever remember consciously lying to him. She didn't have any proof, but she knew. She knew the first time she saw both of their eyes shining with laughter... over a potato of all things.
A part of her wanted to tell him what she suspected, to share the burden of Emily's loss, but she couldn't. She could be wrong, she tried to justify to herself. Maybe it's just wishful thinking.
But in reality she knew why she couldn't tell him. She refused to be the one to give him one more little girl to mourn who would never come home.
